About Rheem HVAC Systems & Products

Brothers Richard and Donald Rheem founded Rheem Manufacturing Company in Emeryville, Calif., in 1925. While the company has produced a number of products in its nearly 100 years of operation — including steel shipping containers, household appliances like gas ranges, semi-conductors, musical instruments and more — Rheem today is the only manufacturer in the world that produces heating, cooling, water heating, pool/spa heating and commercial refrigeration products, and it is the largest manufacturer of water heating products in North America.
Rheem Manufacturing Company is a long-standing American HVAC brand known for producing a broad range of residential and commercial heating and cooling systems, including air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, and ductless mini-splits. Founded in the 1920s, Rheem has grown into one of the few companies worldwide that manufacture both air and water heating products along with climate-control solutions. Its residential HVAC products span different series aimed at balancing performance, efficiency, and value, making them suitable for a wide range of homes and budgets.
A key strength of Rheem’s HVAC lineup is its focus on energy efficiency and comfort. Many of its air conditioners and heat pumps achieve high SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) ratings, with some models reaching up to around 20 SEER2 — competitive with other mainstream HVAC brands. Advanced features like variable-speed compressors and integrated sound-dampening designs help these units deliver quieter operation and improved humidity control, enhancing indoor comfort while reducing utility costs.
Rheem also emphasizes smart functionality and system integration. Its EcoNet® smart thermostat and control platform allow homeowners to monitor and adjust their HVAC systems remotely via smartphones or tablets, offering insights into performance, energy usage, and maintenance needs. These smart controls help optimize efficiency and comfort throughout the year, although the depth of smart-home integration can vary by model and is typically more robust on its higher-tier systems.
Another notable aspect of Rheem products is their warranty and service support. Most residential HVAC systems include a competitive 10-year limited parts warranty when properly registered, and optional extended service plans are available to provide further peace of mind beyond the initial coverage period. While professional installation is crucial to ensure performance and maintain warranty eligibility, Rheem’s extensive dealer network and parts availability make service and maintenance accessible for many homeowners.
