Future Outlook
Federal energy efficiency incentives are expected to remain a priority in the coming years, especially as energy costs and
environmental concerns continue to grow. While no guarantees can be made about future programs, there is strong support for
continuing or expanding incentives for high-efficiency HVAC systems and home energy improvements.
Expiration & Timeline
Federal tax credits for HVAC installations, including those offered under the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit
(Section 25C), were available for qualifying energy-efficient systems installed through December 31,
2025. Due to legislative changes, these incentives—originally expected to continue for several more years—were
set to expire for any systems placed in service after that date, meaning installations completed in 2026 or
later are no longer eligible for these specific federal tax credits.
For homeowners and businesses, this deadline marked the final opportunity to take advantage of significant savings on qualifying HVAC upgrades, including high-efficiency heat pumps, air conditioners, and furnaces. Any qualifying system had to be fully installed and operational by December 31, 2025 to receive the tax credit benefits.
